Computation of energy dissipation across the type-A piano key weir by using gene expression programming technique

Abstract Energy dissipation across the weir and dam structures is a vital economic technical solution for designing downstream morphology of any hydraulic system. Accurately estimating energy over system using traditional empirical formulas tedious challenging. Consequently, employing new precise techniques still in high demand crucial. In this study, authors developed an model residual type-A piano key (PKW) gene expression programming (GEP) by considering six non-dimensional parameters: headwater ratio, magnification inlet to outlet width bottom slopes, overhang portions number cycles. The performance proposed models has been compared equations statistical factors coefficient determination (R2), concordance (CC), root mean square error (RMSE). computed relative values are within ±10% observed ones. GEP predicted satisfactorily, with coefficients R2 = 0.978 training, 0.980 testing errors (RMSE) 0.032 0.029 training datasets, respectively.
